Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob: 32 °but the Asherites dwelt among the

Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: for they did not drive them out.

Naphtali Idrave noti out the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth-anath ; but he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and of Bethanath became tributaryl unto them.

34 And the Amorites forced the chil

dren of Dan into the hill country!:

and they provoked the Lord to 13 anger. "And they forsook the Lord,

and served Baal and the Ashtaroth. 11 °And the anger of the LORD was

kindled! against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any

longer stand before their enemies. 15 °Whithersoever they went out, the

hand of the LORD was against them for evil, as the Lord had Ispoken', and as the LORD had sworn unto

them: and they were isorel distressed. 16 ° And the LORD raised up judges,

which isaved them out of the hand 17 of those that spoiled them. °And yet

they 'hearkenedi not unto their judges, 'for they went a whoring after other gods, and bowed themselves down! unto them: they turned 'aside' quickly out of the way 'wherein' their fathers walked, obeying the commandments

when the judge was dead, that they 'turned back', and 'dealti more corruptly! than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them, and to bow down unto them; Ithey ceased not

from their doings, nor from their (20 stubborn way. And the anger of the

LORD was ikindled' against Israel ; and he said, Because this ination havel transgressed my covenant which I

will not henceforth drive out any

from before them of the nations which 22 Joshua left when he died : "that 'by!

them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the LORD

those nations, without driving them out hastily; neither delivered he them

upon him, and he judged Israel; and The went out to war, and the LORD delivered Cushan-rishathaim king of 6Mesopotamia into his hand : and his

hand prevailed against Cushan-risha11 thaim. And the land had rest forty

that which was evil in the sight of the Lord: and the LORD strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israel, because they had done that which wası evil in the sight of the

Israel. 4 INowi Deborah, a prophetess, the

tali and of the children of Zebulun? 7 °And I will draw unto thee to the

river Kishon Sisera, the captain of Jabin's army, with his chariots and

his multitude ; and I will deliver him (8 into thine hand. And Barak said

unto her, If thou wilt go with me,

then I will go : but if thou wilt not go 9 with me, I will not go. And she

said, I will surely go with thee: notwithstanding the journey that thou takest shall not be for thine honour; for the LORD shall sell Sisera into

the hand of a woman. And Deborah

arose, and went with Barak to Kedesh. 10 °And Barak called Zebulun and Naph

tali 'together to Kedesh; and 'there!

went up ten thousand men at his feet: 11) and Deborah went up with him. Now

Heber the Kenite had severed himself from Ithe Kenites, leven from the children of Hobab the 21 brother in law of Moses, and had pitched his

tent'as far as the sloak in *Zaanannim', 12 which is by Kedesh. °And they 'told!

Sisera that Barak the son of Abinoam (13 was gone up to mount Tabor. And

and all his chariots, and all his host, with the edge of the sword before Barak; landi Sisera lighted down

'from his chariot, and fed away on (16 his feet. "But Barak pursued after

the chariots, and after the host, unto Haroshęth of the 5Gentiles: and all the host of Sisera fell 'by the edge of the sword; there was not a man

left. 17 Howbeit Sisera Aed away on his

feet to the tent of Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite : for there was peace between Jabin the king of

Hazor and the house of Heber the 18 Kenite. And Jael went out to meet

Sisera, and said unto him, Turn in, my lord, turn in to me; fear not. And he turned in unto her into the

tent, land! she covered him with a 19 Slsugl. "And he said unto her, Give

me, I pray thee, a little water to drink; for I am thirsty. And she

opened a bottle of milk, and gave 20 him drink, and covered him. And

he said unto her, Stand in the door of the tent, and it shall be, when any man doth come and inquire of thee, and

say, Is there any man here? that 21 thou shalt say, No. "Then Jael

Heber's wife took a tent-'pin', and

took lan! hammer in her hand, and went softly unto him, and smote the 'pin' into his temples, and it 'pierced throught into the ground; for he was

olin a deep sleep': so he 'swooned 22 and died. "And, behold, as Barak

pursued Sisera, Jael came out to meet him, and said unto him, Come, and I will shew thee the man whom thou seekest. And he came 'untoi her;

land', behold, Sisera lay dead, and 23 the itent-pin' was in his temples. So

God subdued on that day Jabin the

king of Canaan before the children of 24) Israel. And the hand of the children

of Israel prevailed "morel and more! against Jabin the king of Canaan, until they had destroyed Jabin king

of Canaan. 51 Then

sang

Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam on that day,

saying, 2) For 'that the leaders took the lead

in' Israel, iFor that the people offered them

selves willingly,

Bless ye the Lord. 3 Hear, ó ye kings; give ear, 0 ye

princes; I, even I, will sing unto the Lord; I will sing praise to the LORD, 'thel

God of Israel. 4 LORD, when thou wentest forth

out of Seir, When thou marchedst out of the

field of Edom, The earth trembled, the heavens

also dropped, 'Yea!, the clouds dropped water. 5 The mountains 7 flowed down at

the presence of the LORD, Even iyon! Sinai 'at the presence

of the LORD, 'the God of

Israel.
6 In the days of Shamgar the son of

Anath,
In the days of Jael, 8the high ways

were unoccupied,
And the travellers walked through

obyways.
7) 10 The 'rulersi ceased in Israel, they

Until that I Deborah arose,
