Thine arm and the light of Thy countenance. Thou art my King and my God. . . . We will praise Thy Name for ever.' If David wrote these words in a present and personal sense, we may use them for our spiritual comfort. Yet a little while and the ungodly shall be clean gone. Thou shalt look after his place and he shall be away. But the meek-spirited shall possess the earth, and shall be refreshed in the multitude of peace.'

'Seek ye the Lord, all ye meek of the earth which have wrought His judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness; it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the Lord's anger' (Zech. ii. 3). 'The Lord your God ye shall fear, and He shall deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies' (2 Kings xvii. 39). 'Whoso trusteth in the Lord, happy is he' (Prov. xvi. 20).

'If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering' (James i. 5, 6). And the Lord shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought' (Isa. lviii. 11). 'The hand of our God is upon all them for good that seek Him' (Ezra viii. 22).

'The Lord shall give strength unto His people. The Lord shall give His people the blessing of peace' (Ps. xxix. 10).

'Before Jehovah's awful throne,

Ye nations bow with sacred joy ;
Know that the Lord is God alone;
He can create and He destroy.

'His sovereign power, without our aid,
Made us of clay, and form'd us men;
And when like wandering sheep we strayed,
He brought us to His fold again.

'We'll crowd Thy gates with thankful songs,
High as the heavens our voices raise;
And earth, with her ten thousand tongues,
Shall fill Thy courts with sounding praise.
'Wide as the world is Thy command;
Vast as eternity Thy love;

Firm as a rock Thy truth shall stand,
When rolling years shall cease to move.'

FAITH.

'Whom have I in heaven but Thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire in comparison of Thee.'

'Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee;

E'en though it be a cross
That raiseth me,

Still all my song shall be,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee.

'Though, like the wanderer,
The sun gone down,

Darkness comes over me,

My rest a stone,

Yet in my dreams I'd be

Nearer, my God, to Thee,

Nearer to Thee.

'There let my way appear
Steps unto heaven,

All that Thou sendest me
In mercy given;

Angels to beckon me

Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee.

'Then, with my waking thoughts
Bright with Thy praise,

Out of my stony griefs

Beth-el I'll raise ;

So by my woes to be

Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee.'

'Our help standeth in the Name of the Lord, who hath made heaven and earth' (Ps. cxxiv. 7). 'They that put their trust in the Lord shall be even as the mount Sion, which may not be removed, but standeth fast for ever' (Ps. cxxv. 1).

'Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. By faith Enoch was translated, that he should not see death, and was not found, because God had translated him; for before his translation he had this testimony, that he

pleased God. But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a Rewarder of them that diligently seek Him' (Heb. xi. 1, 5, 6).

How often we hear men of all creeds and of all denominations speaking of the Love of God as if they were not quite sure about it. To any who have a deep and intense love and reverence for Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, who have recognised from earliest childhood the powerful justice and providence of God in His dealings with man, His tenderness in love and chastening, the Christian evidence of man's lack of the true knowledge of the Love of God to-day is very painful. Christ suffered and died to teach men that all power is with and from God, and that God is Love, eternal and unchangeable. He that is of God heareth God's words.' Does not the Old Testament teem with the revelations of God's loving and tender care of man? David's knowledge of the Love of God for man and his own tender love and reverence for God, his constant desire to exalt and worthily magnify God's Holy Name, would alone put to shame the halfhearted faith of to-day. Read David's words at the offerings for the Temple: 'Wherefore David
