OPINIONS OF THE PRESS.

"This series may be recommended for the freshness and variety of its materials. The volumes are well got up, and furnished with good illustrations at a moderate price."-Athenæum.

"A singularly good and complete series. The passages for reading are well selected, and present a great variety. For Government Code purposes it is, in short, a complete encyclopædia."-Guardian.

"Nothing could be better than the Public School Series,' commencing from the simplest materials and proceeding gradually to the more complex."Westminster Review.

"We can heartily commend them to school boards and teachers as the eading books of the age."-National Education Gazette.

"The series is one of the best and most carefully compiled extant; indeed, there are few that approach it in excellence."-Scotsman.

"From the 'Primer' to the last Reading-Book there is so much novelty in selection, arrangement, and illustration, that we envy the coming generation of school children who will have such kindly guides into the upper regions of literature, science, and art."-Glasgow Herald.

"An excellent series of graduated class-books. We cordially commend them to the notice of all interested or engaged in the work of school instruction."-Inquirer.

"The works are exceedingly well graduated, and made to suit the different capacities of their readers. The passages are selected with care and clear good taste, and adapted to give a high moral tone to the mind, as well as information of the most useful kind to the understanding."-Standard.

"We can heartily recommend them, as exhibiting taste, wisdom, and good sense." "-Echo.

"A practical teacher who has examined the series, assures us that it is beyond all question the very best yet issued."-Norwich Mercury.

DRAWING BOOKS.

FIRST GRADE-FREE-HAND. In Twelve Books, 4d. each.

THESE First Grade Free-hand Drawing Books have been designed by a practical Art-Teacher to prepare the Scholars in Public Elementary Schools for the Examinations of the Science and Art Department. The Books hitherto used are not as a rule sufficiently simple for scholars in the lower classes, nor sufficient in number to admit of more than a very imperfect attempt at graduation. These Books contain 192 carefully graduated copus, and numerous aids are given in the earlier numbers, making them specially suitable for beginners. These aids are intended gradually to educate the eye in appreciating form, distance, and relative position.

SECOND GRADE-FREE-HAND.

In preparation.

FIRST GRADE GEOMETRY. In Six Books, 4d. each.

The First Grade Geometrical Drawing Books have been designed by an experienced Art-Teacher to meet the requirements of the Examinations conducted by the Science and Art Department. In the Minute of November, 1872, neatness of execution is as much insisted on as correct geometry, and the lines of construction are to be distinguished from the lines of the figure. Care has been taken to make every drawing a model for imitation; and in numerous examination papers knowledge and skill.
