One of the two most celebrated great Arabic lexicons written by native scholars, and the one most highly esteemed in the East itself. The author, Abu Nasr Ismail al Jauhari, died A.B. 398 (1007). The editor, Abu'l Wafâ al Hûrînî, has prefixed a long Preface. Although there have been at least three editions of Wân Kûli's Turkish translation of the Sihâh, and also more than one of the Persian one, this is, as far as we know, the second time only that the Arabic original has been printed. The first time was at Tabriz. This work is the basis of the Lexicons of Golius and Meninski.
