earth. And the went, and did according to the faying of Elijah, and fhe, and he, and her fon, did eat many days. And the barrel of meal wafled not, neither did the cruife of oil fail.

7....And it came to pafs, after these things, that the fon of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell fick : and his fickness was fore, that there was no breath left in him. And the faid unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? Art thou come unto me to call my fins to remembrance, and to flay my fon?

8....And he faid unto her, Give me thy fon. And he took him out of her bofom, and carried him up into a loft where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed. And he cried unto the Lord, and faid, O Lord my God, haft thou alfo brought evil upon the widow with whom I fojourn, by flaying her fon? And he ftretched himfelf upon the child three times, and cried unto the Lord and faid, O Lord my God, I pray thee, let this child's foul come into him again.

9....And the Lord heard the voice of Elijah, and the foul of the child came into him again, and he revived. And Elijah took the child, and brought him down, and delivered him unto his mother and Elijah faid, See thy fon liveth. And the woman faid to Elijah, Now by this I know thou art a man of God.

10....And it came to pass, after many days, that the word of the Lord came to Elijah, faying, Go fhew thyfelf unto Ahab and I will fend rain upon the earth. And Elijah went to fhew himself unto Ahab: and there was a fore famine in Samaria. And Ahab called Obadiah, who was the governor of his houfe: (Now Oba. diah feared the Lord greatly.)

11....And Ahab faid unto Obadiah, Go into the land, unto all fountains of water, and unto all brooks; per

adventure we may find grafs to fave the horses and mules alive. So they divided the land between them: Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went another way by himfelt. And as Obadiah was in the

way, behold Elijah met him.

12....And Obadiah knew him, and fell on his face, and faid, Art thou my lord Elijah? And he answered, I am go tell thy lord, behold, Elijah is here. And he faid, What have I finned, that thou wouldeft deliver thy fervant into the hand of Ahab, to flay me? There is no nation or kingdom whether my lord bath not fent to feek thee.

13...And now thou fayeft, Go tell thy lord, behold Elijah is here. And it fhall come to pafs, as foon as I am gone from thee, that the Spirit of the Lord fhall carry thee whither I know not: and fo, when I come and tell Ahab, and he cannot find thee, he fhall flay me: but I thy fervant fear the Lord from my youth.

14.... Was it not told my lord what I did, when Jezebel flew the prophets of the Lord, how I hid an hundred men of the Lord's prophets, by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water? And now thou fayeft, Go tell thy lord, behold, Elijah is here: and he fhall flay me.

15....And Elijah faid, As the Lord of hofts liveth, before whom I fland, I will furely fhew myfelt unto him to-day. So Obadiah went to meet Ahab, and told him And Ahab went to meet Elijah. And when Ahab faw Elijah, he said unto him, Art thou he that troubleth Ifrael? And Elijah anfwered, I have not troubled Ifrael, but thou and thy father's houfe, in that ye have forfaken the commandments of the Lord, and have followed Baalim.

17....Then faid Elijah unto the people, I, even I only, remain a prophet of the Lord; but Baal's prophets are four hundred and fifty men. Let them, therefore, give us two bullocks; and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under and I will drefs the other bullock, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under.

18.... And call ye on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the Lord; and the God who anfwereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people anfwered and faid, It is well fpoken. And Elijah faid unto the prophets of Baal, Choose ye one bullock for yourselves, and drefs it firft; for ye are many.

19.... And they took out the bullock which was given them, and they dreffed it, and called on the name of Baal, from morning even until noon, faying, O Baal bear us! But there was no voice, nor any that anfwered. And they leaped upon their altar. And it came

to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them and faid, Cry aloud; for he is a god either he is talking, or he is purfuing, or he is on a journey, or peradventure he fleepeth, and must be awaked.

20....And they cried aloud, and cut themfelves, after their manner, with knives and lancets, till the blood gulhed out upon them. And although they prophefied until the time of the offering of the evening lacrifice, there was neither voice nor any to answer, nor any that regarded.

21.... And Elijah faid unto all the people, Come near unto me. And all the people came near unto him : and he repaired the altar of the Lord; that was broken down and he made a trench about the altar. And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid him on the wood, and faid, Fill our barrels with water, and pour it on the burnt facrifice, and on the wood. And he filled the trench with water.

22...,And, at the time of the offering of the evening facrifice, Elijah the prophet came near, and faid, Lord God of Abraham, of Ifaac, and of Ifrael, let it be known this day that thou art God in Ifrael, and that I am thy fervant, and that I have done all thele things at thy word. Hear me, O Lord, hear me ; that this people may know that thou art the Lord God.

23....Then the fire of the Lord fell, and confumed the burnt-facrifice, and the wood and the ftones, and the duff, and licked up the water that was in the trench. And when all the people law it they fell on their faces; and they faid, The Lord he is the God; the Lord, he is the God.

24....And Elijah faid unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a found of abundance of rain. So Ahab went up to eat and to drink; and Elijah went to the top of Carmel; and he caft himself down upon the earth and put his face between his knees. And faid unto his fervant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and faid, There is nothing.

25....And he faid, Go again feven times. And it came to pafs, at the feventh time that he faid, Behold, there arifeth a little cloud out of the fea, like a man's hand. And he faid, Go up, fay unto Ahab, prepare thy chariot, and get thee down, that the ram flop thee

not. And it came to pafs, in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain.

26....And after thefe things, the Lord faid unto Elijah, Go, return on thy way to the wildernefs :-Änd Elifha the fan of Shaphat, thou halt anoint to be prophet in thy room. So he departed hence, and found Elifha the fon of Shaphat, who was ploughing with twelve yoke of oxen. And Elijah caft his mantle up. on him and he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and minifiered unto him.

27... And it came to pafs, when the Lord would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elifha from Gilgal, And Elijah faid unto Elifha, Tarry here, I pray thee for the Lord hath fent me to Bethel. And Elifha faid unto him, As thy foul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they went down to Bethel.

28...And Elijah faid unto Elifba, Tarry here. I pray thee, for the Lord hath fent me to Jericho. And he said, As thy foul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they came to Jericho. And Elijah faid unto him, Tarry, I pray thee here, for the Lord hath fent me to Jordan. And he faid, As the Lord liveth, I will not leave theé. And fifty men of the fons of the prophets went, and stood

afar off.

29....And they two ftood by Jordan. And Elijah took his mantle, and fmote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither; So that they two went over on dry ground. And when they were gone over, Elijah faid unto Elifha, Afk what I fhali do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha faid, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy fpirit be upon me.

30....And he faid, Thou haft afked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou fee me, when I am taken from thee,
