Father.-O God Almighty, we pray thee to bless the servants of this family. Enable them to be faithful in all their duties, not rendering eye-service, but acting as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; and may they be cheered in all their service with the conviction that they are serving the Lord Jesus Christ. May they rest in his atonement, and do his will, and at length may they receive the inheritance thou hast promised to those who love thee.

Family.-O Lord, graciously bless the servants of this family; make them faithful in all their service, and grant to them at last the crown of eternal life.

Father.-Bless, O our God, we entreat thee, all our relatives, all our friends, and all our acquaintances. Family.-Amen.

Father. We pray thee, O God, to bless all thy people, and may it please thee speedily to make known thy salvation among all nations, in every family, and to every individual.

Family.-Amen.

Father. Show thy compassion, O Lord, we beseech thee, to the Poor, to the Ignorant, and to the Distressed; reclaim the vicious, have mercy upon all: and may thy kingdom come, and may thy will be done on earth,

as it is done in heaven.

Family.-Amen.

Father.-O Lord our God and Father, most graciously look upon us all, we earnestly beseech thee. Keep us throughout this day in thy fear and in thy favour: may we serve thee in all things with a single eye and a single heart; may our thoughts and our hopes be in heaven, and may we finally be brought to thy eternal kingdom and glory.

Family.-O Lord, condescend to keep us in holiness

and righteousness throughout the day; and finally do thou bring us to the eternal mansions of glory.

Father.-O Thou hearer of prayer, vouchsafe to us all, a gracious answer to our supplications now made before thee, for the sake of Jesus Christ thy Beloved Son, and our only Mediator and Intercessor: amen.

Family-O Lord, be merciful and gracious to us all, for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord and Redeemer : : amen, and amen.

EVENING FAMILY WORSHIP:

WEEK

FOR

DAYS.

Father, or other Head of the Family.-Let us Pray.

[All kneel.]

Father.-Almighty and Everlasting God, grant us grace, we beseech thee, to come into thy presence, and to worship thee at this time, with reverence and with godly fear. Withdraw our minds from every thing but thy worship and service in which we are now immediately engaged. May thy presence, O God, be with us, according to thy promise. Graciously instruct us from thy word; let us sing thy praise with melody in our hearts; and pour out on us a spirit of prayer and O may we find thy presence sweet, refreshing, and edifying to our souls, whilst we are thus waiting upon thee. Vouchsafe unto us these blessings, O our God, for the sake of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Family.-Amen.

Father. Our Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil:

For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen.

Family.-Amen.

[All seated.]

Father. The portion of Holy Scripture for this evening is &c.

[The Scriptures will then be read.]

Father.-Let us sing to the praise and the glory of God:-" Author of &c."

66

1. Author of the whole creation,
Light of light, eternal Word!
Soul and body's preservation

I commit to thee, O Lord!
My Redeemer, dwell in me,
Let me sleep and wake with Thee,
And perceive thy benediction,
Both in joy and in affliction.

2. When I close mine eyes in slumber,
And my senses are asleep,

Let my waking heart, the number

Of thy mercies tell and keep;

Fill me with thy sacred love,
That I dream of things above,
And bestow on me the favour
Of thy presence, gracious Saviour.

3. Pardon, Jesus, each transgression,
Whether open or unknown,
Thus removing that oppression

Under which I else should groan;
I confess the guilt of sin,

But thy blood can make me clean ;
Hear, O Lord, my supplication,
Grant me joy and consolation.

Father.-Let us Pray.

[All kneel.]

Father.-Our Father who art in heaven, at the close of this day, we present ourselves before thy throne of grace. In the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, we come into thy presence. May thy Holy Spirit especially dwell in us whilst we wait upon thee, that we may humble ourselves under thy mighty hand, that we may be full of gratitude and love for thy mercies, and that we may have peace and joy in thee through our Blessed Redeemer.

Family-Our Father in heaven, graciously grant us thy Holy Spirit whilst we wait upon thee together this evening.

Father. O Lord, we thank thee for all thy goodness to us throughout this day. Thou hast sustained us all the day long, thou hast protected us, hast supplied our wants, and hast bestowed on us many blessings and comforts. Make us, O Lord, truly thankful to thee for all thy mercies, and all thy benefits; and may we be truly sensible of our undeservingness.

Family.-O Lord, we adore thee for all thy mercies to us this day, and confess ourselves unworthy of the least of thy mercies.

Father.-Blessed God, we thank thee for enabling us in any measure to attend to our duties this day as the servants of Christ. Graciously be pleased, O Lord, to follow with thy blessing all the labours in which we have this day been engaged.

Family-O God, if it seem good in thy sight, prosper the labours in which we have this day been engaged.

Father.—Almighty God, we confess before thee, that all we do is done in much ignorance and in much weakness, and is intermixed with much sin. Forgive, O Lord, all the sins we have committed this day of whatever kind: wash them all away, we beseech thee, in the precious blood of thy Son Jesus Christ, and may they never rise up in judgment against us.
