DISCOURSE delivered at the Consecration of an Ecclesiastic of the Church of Rome, con- verted to Protestantism, and admitted to the Ministry in the Church of Geneva. 293 BOUVIER. PREFACE. THE first series of THE MODERN DIVINES OF GENEVA was presented to the Public, several years ago, under the conviction that the work would not fail to assist in promoting the important end of religious edification in general; while, at the same time—and this, indeed, was the object which the Editor had more particularly in view—it would afford the most authentic and effectual means of correcting those erroneous notions, which party prejudice had industriously diffused in this country, respecting the Clergy of Geneva, as a body, by enabling the English Public to form their own judgment of the doctrines taught by authority in that venerable Church. |
