The result has been no less favourable than was anticipated: the publication has proved extensively acceptable; and the Editor has reason to feel assured, that the impression left by its perusal, on the minds of his readers generally, in regard to those excellent Divines with whose labours it made them acquainted, is such as he considers due to their eminent piety and talents.

It is, therefore, with no small gratification that, in conjunction with the Friend whose assistance he was enabled to command in preparing the former volume, he now redeems his pledge to publish a SECOND SERIES;* more especially as exertions have been made-and, he trusts, with success-to render the present volume not only, upon the whole, essentially more valuable than its precursor, but more adapted to the expectations of those readers whose taste in compositions of this kind has

been formed by the perusal of the profound and vigorous productions of the best ages of the English Pulpit. He would refer, in particular, to the two Discourses on the Study of the Scriptures, by Professor Cellérier: the Editor is not aware that any thing more admirable in itself, or equally appropriate to the present times, has ever appeared among the numerous and excellent Ordination Sermons which have been published in England.
