As this (so-thought) 'Nineteenth Century' is
drawing towards a close, it seems fitting that
its most remarkable literary product should be
made known, viz., the development of the Spirit-
uality of the Word of God, through and by an
individual experience in the years 1825-1828..
With all the professed (and sincere in some cases)
reverence for, and admiration of the Bible, as it
reads, there can be no question but that innumer-
able perplexities and divisions have arisen from
its mysterious language and 'hard sayings,' and
none have been able to unite it as a whole. To
lovers of the Bible then, and many fearers of
its threats, the solution given in these Works
should be welcome and acceptable,-if not exactly
palatable to mere sense,-as they provide an endless
subject for contemplation, and full employment
of the emotional and intellectual faculties with
which we are endowed. And even scoffers at
the language of Inspiration, as recorded, may be
brought to see all its sayings justified, and become
reconciled to the Sacred Volume they have
discarded by their reason.
